Underactive Thyroid, also called hypothyroidism, is a metabolic problem when the Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) output from the pituitary gland is higher than 3.0. Now, there is a pathologic high range of TSH which, depending on some labs is 5.0, and there is an optimal high range which is 3.0. I like to have people get down into the optimal or functional range of TSH. But, that is not the end of the story…
